Cathy and I attended and celebrated our first Halloween party--Ever. We have always wanted to go to one but always missed out because we would be out to local haunted houses and rides or at local theme parks (Busch Gardens and Kings Dominion). This year we went to Orlando, FL and satisfied our festivities in Universal Studios and Busch Gardens and then didn't do anything locally, so, we were free and open to whatever the weekend of Halloween.
Our good friend had invited us to a party and we were excited to go and had fun picking out our costumes. I was asked to photograph the event as well so I didn't want to go all out with my costume because I knew I would have a hard time taking pictures. So, I went as Michael Myers who happens to be one of Cathy's favorite scary movie and she dressed up as a sexier version of Snow White.
Every time I do a shoot on location I realize I need a better system to haul all my stuff because right now I carry about 6 different things. Not much fun to carry around when a second pair of hand isn't around. Also, not fun when I have to pack up everything after the shoot but thankfully my buddy was there to help me load setup and unload. I have been looking into getting a Pelican case but we don't have any local stores that carry them and I am big on checking something like that in person before buying it. I don't wanna buy something too big and not be able to use the entire space or buy something small and defeat the purpose of consolidating my gear.
Anyway, onto the photos. I went to the house earlier in the day where the party was held to scout out the best place for setting up and then positioning and testing all the lights that were going to be used. Basically I wanted rim lights and a fill light and being the noob that I am it took me an hour to come up with what I wanted. Of course I learned a thing or two from this experience so it will cut down on setup time in the future. Oh and invest in more speedlite or pack and head kit.
